ZnCl2 is white in color and is hygroscopic in nature.
Zinc chloride is used as a catalyst:
• in Knoevenagel condensation of carbonyl substrates with acidic methylene reagents[1]
• in solvent-free synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones.[3]
It
may be used as chemical activating agents, zinc chloride in particular is the most widely used chemical in the preparation of activated carbon.[2]
