Alcian Blue 8GX has been used for the staining of sulfated proteoglycans in murine MPC (mesenchymal progenitor cell) nodule.[3] It has been used for the staining of sulfated proteoglycans in bovine articular chondrocytes.[4]

Alcian Blue 8GX is a cationic dye. It forms insoluble complexes with acidic glycosaminoglycans, thereby helping in the quantitative determination of glycosaminoglycans.[1] It is also used for the staining of bone and cartilage.[2]
Certified for use in staining in Mowry′s pH 2.5 method, in Scott′s pH 5.7 method, and in Kreyberg′s method for keratin and mucin.
