Casein Solution, 5%, from Bovine Milk
Casein is a calcium (phosphate) binding phosphoprotein. It is present in mammalian milk and constitutes about 80% of the total bovine milk proteins.[1] Bovine milk consists of four casein peptides, such as αs1-,αs2-,β-, and κ-caseins.[1] Casein exists in milk as micelles.[3] Casein from bovine is produced by the mammary gland under multihormonal control.[2]
Casein solution from bovine milk has been used as a substrate for cyclic-AMP dependent protein kinase.
Casein solution from bovine milk has been used:
• to determine the protease activity in ground beef and its effects on bacteriocin[8]
• as a non-specific substrate to measure the activity of the protein
phosphatase 2C (PP2C) fusions[6]
• in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel for casein zymography[10]
Casein micelle system inhibits the pathological calcification of mammary glands.[3] It acts as a source of amino acids for the growth of neonates.
Hydrolyzed and partially dephosphorylated. Prepared from a mixture of α, β and κ caseins.
